Chief's Soul Kitchen or CSK started when Shannon Cherry while still a founding member of the band Lamp 5, was being inspired by the music of MMW, Galactic, The Greyboy Allstars, and Tin Hat Trio, got a chance to perform with a great band from New Orleans. A band called Good Enough For Good Times. Comprised of Robert Mercurio on the Bass and Jeff Raines on Guitar from Galactic, as well as Joe Ashlar (Bonerama, Otra) on the Organ and Rhodes and Simon Lott II on the Drums (Skerik's Maelstrom, Charlie Hunter Trio), their music inspired the idea of starting a Soul Jazz band that expanded the bounderies of jam, funk as well as jam rock.

Of course CSK has evolved since those days in 2007, and now feature a very diverse and eclectic, rare-groove sound. The influences are pouring in from Klezmer, Gypsy, Avante Garde, Delta Blues and Latin to form a different kind of funk and jazz.
